Q: How do you Pronounce Acai?

A: Acai, which is actually spelled "Açaí ", is pronounced like (Ah-Sigh-EE), stressing the last syllable. You can listen to the pronunciation of Acai here. (Mp3 format)

Q: Where can I get an Acai Palm tree to grow berries with?

A: A few South American countries like Brazil grow them, but not for Export, since their nutrients rapidly dissipate.

Q: Why can't I grow Acai Palm trees outside of South America?

A: The Acai Palm can technically grow anywhere that other Palm trees can survive, however the extremely High levels of Antioxidents and other benefits derived from the Acai berry would be greatly dimenshed, due to the lack of Heavy UltraViolet rays that constantly bombard Acai Palms in their native environment.

Q: How many Antioxidents should I eat every day?

A: The average modern human body works best with 6,000 ORAC units of antioxidents every day. If you eat more than that there are no side effects, they will simply be expelled by your kidneys. Unfortunately, the average American gets less than 1000 ORAC units each day, despite the fact that a cup of Blueberries or just a 5 grams of fresh Acai will give them their daily needs.

Q: How much ORAC value does an Acai Berry have?

A: One gram of Acai berry, fresh off the tree, has something in the neighborhood of 1,200 ORAC. By the time it is processed and gets to you that number could be as little as 100 ORAC, which is pretty Awful, depending on the processing proceedure.

Q: What does Acai taste like?

A: Acai has it's own flavor, not much like anything else you've ever eaten. It's not as sweet as most berries, just a little tart, with traces of Chocolate and Clove. Mixed with certian other berries it tastes heavenly, but pure Acai can taste bland or "muddy" by itself, especailly when processed poorly.

Q: Why does Acai taste so good in some products and so yucky in others?

A: That is usually a matter of sweetener, although pure Acai in Powdered form is neither yucky nor sweet. The berries themselves aren't that sweet but it is obvious that they lose their natural sweetener during processing.
